A gay music teacher and organist fired by a Pretoria NG Kerk has found work again, with a different branch of the same church in the Eastern Cape, according to Sunday’s Rapport.
Johan Strydom was approached by the NG Kerk in Kareedouw after its congregation and preacher, Dr Kobus Bohnen, learnt Strydom was living in Jeffreys Bay.
In September 2008 the Moreleta Park, Pretoria NG Kerk apologised to Strydom for unfairly discriminating against him by firing him when it learnt he was in a homosexual relationship. The High Court in Pretoria also ordered the church to pay him R87 000 in damages.
